Little relish's pre-school had cultural day today and they asked that parents and their child represent their culture and share with the school. Mr. Relish's grandmother came from Poland so we volunteered to represent...
Here is the dress I made my little polish girl. Pattern for the dress was derived from Tie Dye Diva's Handkerchief Dress Pattern. I just added the embroidery and made the skirt one layer without the handkerchief look.
Here is the display and the cute little ones "flying" in. They even had adorable passports that looked real!
I got handy with my silhouette and made some poppy flowers and chalkboard label plates for the display. Then, Mr. Relish aka Ambassador of Poland gave all the wee ones poppy seed bread. Yum! - Recipe below-
I found these cute vintage dolls on Etsy for cheap. We were going to ask Mr. Relish's family for some Polish things but decided it would be easier to get them online so we wouldn't have to trouble anyone and also not to worry if they got messed up since so many little hands will be playing with them. I also found this beautiful Polish ceramic dish on Amazon!
Here is the recipe I got from Mr. Relish's grandmother:
Poppy Seed Bread Recipe:
3 1/3 Flour
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/8 C. oil
2 1/4 C. sugar
1 1/2 C. milk
1 1/2 T. poppy seed
1 1/2 tsp. almond flavoring or abstract
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 tsp. butter flavoring
Mix all ingredients with a mixer. Pour into 2 greased loaf pans . Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
The kiddos also got to make a trip over to England, Egypt, Philippines, Mexico, and Korea! World travelers, I tell ya!
Thanks for visiting Poland with us!
