virtual quilting bee

Hi Y'all! I don't know what it is, but spring time is always so busy for my family. We have all my in-laws in town for a huge family picture and had to give baby relish my sewing room to sleep in. Whomp. Whomp. Needless to say, I have nothing creative to show for my week except for all my lofty ideas once little relish #1 goes back to pre-school next week and baby relish gives me my sewing room back. I am having major withdrawls from not sewing...and this is no lie, ask Mr. Relish!

I did get some fabric yesterday from Fat Quarter Shop! It was 50% off and there is absolutely no other good reason to get it other than that and oh yeah, it's pretty....

I also joined the Flickr group to participate in the Virtual Quilting Bee over at Diary of a Quilter by Amy Smart. I figure if I join the group and blog about it, then it's official. Right? Sherri over at A Quilting Life designed the first block. The tutorial can be found here. I am still deciding what fabrics I want to use for the bee. I know I want to do the traditional blocks but need to decide what collection I want to work from or maybe even make my own assortment...hmmmm! This will also be my first bee ever! Im excited! My goal is to make it on Sunday after all the in-laws leave.

And speaking of Sherri, I just received her new book, A Quilting Life, and love love love it! Can't wait to make something from it soon! You can get a copy from her Etsy site and even have her sign it for ya!

Oh yeah, I did get the matching bunting for baby relish's room finished and up last week. I made her a quilt for her first birthday a couple of weeks ago. You can find my post about it here. We painted the room to a cream color. We were going for a more gender neutral look since we hope to put the house on the market within the next year. There used to be a big beautiful white tree with pink leaves painted on the wall behind her crib so the bunting is a nice compromise. I miss the tree but enjoying the new bright walls.

I hope to have some more creative post next week...Stay-tuned!

Melissa
