Zakka 2.0

I am participating in Zakka 2.0. What's Zakka 2.0 you ask? Well, it is a sew along from a fun quilt book in which each week you make a new item from the book and then share it with each other. I missed the first week, but have jumped in for the second week. I got this book for Mother's Day and just needed a little nudge to start creating from it.

I decided not to do it exactly like the book, because kitchen towels would not make it a day in my house and I really don't have a cute place to display them either. Soooooo.....I decided to make a pillow for our dinning room! I also decided to scratch the breakfast, lunch and dinner part and went with just plain old "EAT" and then the salt and pepper appliques. I used natural linen for the pillow and installed a zipper at the bottom. I'm not entirely in love with this pillow. Not sure what I am unhappy about. So it can just sit pretty on the chair until I figure it out. Maybe I should have used contrasting thread for the applique?...hmmm.

Anyway, I don't plan on doing all the projects in the book, but will jump in for the ones that strike my fancy. For example, I wont be making the tea cozies since I don't drink hot tea. That's just insane here in Texas. I like all my drinks iced cold, even my coffee. I've learned that with kids you are likely going to have lots of cold cups of coffee so, why not do it on purpose!

Here is our formal dining area and "library" where no one ever sits and read or eat for that matter...ha!

If you would like to get a copy of the book, you can find them on Amazon.

Be sure to check out LRStitched's blog about this sew along and the Flickr group, too!

After not feeling so thrilled about my pillow, I went upstairs at naptime to make the adorable pincushion that you see on the cover and totally got my mojo back. There was no way I was going to wait to make that pincushion till the last week of the sew along It's just too freaking cute! So check back soon to see how my paper piecing experience went (it was my first time)!

  1. Melissa, your pillow is adorable. Hopefully you will get to like it better. I'm glad to hear that the pincushion was a grand success. Can't wait to see it.

    1. I totally think you are on to something! Maybe just some binding. That's easy and no need to rip. Thanks!!

  3. Just guessing here...but I think you'll grow to love the pillow! If not, you can always give it to the first person who remarks about how fab it is, and make both of you happy. It's FABulous! {Am I the first?} Can't wait to see your pincushion...what a teaser! That project sold the book for me!
