Zakka 2.0 - Happy Hexagon Trivet

Boy, was this a fun little project. Except for the Briar Rose center, I used only scraps for this...even the binding. Some of my scraps were very tiny and would have tossed otherwise. Big relish was getting upset that I was pulling from her tiny scrap bag...ooops!
Zakka 2.0
I wanted to make two but mama got a new ipad mini yesterday and played with that instead of sewing! I was the biggest fan of Kindle for the longest time but recently realized that Kindle was not keeping up with the technology/apps (meaning no Bloglovin app yet!) and decided to go big or go home! Since there is a Kindle app I can still access all my books and magazine just the same. I would like to give a shout out to my sponsor, Mr. Relish! lol

I almost thought about making the trivet bigger and make 4 placemats. I even made printed out giant patterns and taped them together. Oh well, another day I suppose. But doesn't it make a cute mug rug? I doubt I will ever use it as a trivet. I don't want it to get slathered in food. That would make me sad.

I used two layers of batting (not sure why but glad I did because it's nice and stiff) and machine binded (I've asked this before but it's binded, right? or is it bounded?).

Thanks to all for leaving me good vibes last week but I still haven't won. This week, I feel it! lol

    1. Oh, you must try this one out! It was so fun and the scraps were so tiny. I didn't even try to coordinate much because it just all blends so well. Have fun and thanks for leaving a comment!

    1. thanks so much! mix matching the fabrics was so much fun. Most of them came from my daughter's scrap bag or even the tiny squares I get as samples from fabric shops...like the briar rose ones surrounding the center. Score!

  4. I love it!! And, let me know if you find out if binded is correct! I have wondered about that myself? Congratulations on your new I-pad. Beautiful pictures!

    1. Thanks Debbie! imquilternity says she thinks "bound" but that just sounds funny...I might just break the rules...AINT nothing wrong with that...hehe!

  5. Toooooo cute! I'm glad you're kind of using it, but keeping it safe, too. A mug rug is a good idea, since they don't usually get too dirty. Good luck in the giveaways.

  9. That is an adorable mug rug (I agree, don't use as a trivet and get it all messy!) I'm going to have to agree with imquilternity and say "bound" is the correct term. But, hey, making up new words is fun!

    1. Haha...for sure! Sue (below) Says to use it as a noun and that makes more sense! I'm bound to get it wrong or confused again. See what I did there...lol. Thanks for coming over!!!

  10. Great trivet!! I'm gonna have to give that I try. I think the problem is that for quilting binding is a noun, for other things binding is a verb. If treat as a noun then you don't have the issue of tense. And your English lesson for today is now complete :) See try this, the binding is attached, has been attached or will be attached at later date. Attached, sewn, what ever verb....But as with others, I'm all for making up new words, bound works for me :)
