I was able to finish another EPP project and I think this one is my favorite EPP project so far...

I love the bright colors of Summerville with the black Essex linen.

For the back I used the remaining charm squares and then a folded piece of the linen in 1/2 and added button holes. Totally makes it a double sided pillow, eh?! I didn't layer or quilt the patchwork back, but now I kinda wished I did. Dang. Because the squares are from a charm pack, the edges are finished with pinking sheers so hopefully they won't unravel too much. I always use my serger to finish the seams on the inside of the pillow if I'm not binding it, so I think it will wash up okay.

I machine quilted the Ferris wheel part to the linen then I hand quilted around the wheel using embroidery floss in four different colors. I used 1 1/2 inch hexagons, 1 1/2 squares, and 1 1/12 inch equilateral triangles. I cut all my shapes on my silhouette using cardstock. I really need to get some perle cotton so I don't have to separate the threads. I HATE that part!

There is a ferris wheel Flickr group, too! It was fun to look at all the pictures to find some inspiration. I hope you give this one a try!

Beautiful pillow! I have never tried EPP, but your pillow has inspired me to try!
ReplyDeleteOh, Cheryl, you must try it! It's definitely not a fast turn around but really helps if you are without your machine and need to be creative! Thanks for the sweet comment love!
DeleteNice job Melissa....loving the ferris wheel cushion.
ReplyDeletethanks so very much! I'm so happy with how it turned out! thanks for visiting!
DeleteWow! Love this pillow! The button closure on the back is pretty cute too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda! I've been trying out other ways to close up the backs of the pillows besides just envelope. This one was pretty easy. Thanks for the visit and comment love!
DeleteReally great pillow. The hand quilting is such a nice touch. It was worth separating that floss!
ReplyDeleteHaha! Thanks so much! I think I am just terrible at the separating part...1/2 the time it ends up in knots. Thanks so much for the sweet words and visit!
DeleteVery snazzy! I love that linen!!! I have only done an envelope style, but those buttons are sooo cute.
ReplyDeleteHey Paula! I am in love with this linen! I have a few yards stashed away! The button back didn't take that much longer than regular envelope closures so you must try it out! I find that if I don't put some type of closure (button, zipper, Velcro) then the back starts to bust out a bit. Thanks for the visit!!
DeleteNow that is sweet! I love how you used patchwork and the grey for the backing. Love that hand quilting. Very stylish!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorna! I really love the back as much as the front...bonus! Thanks for the sweet comment and of course coming to visit!
DeleteLove the mix of the black essex linen and the colours!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Roslyn! I am a bit addicted to this black Essex linen! Thanks for the visit and comment!
DeleteI'm not an EPPer, but I think that's just coz I'm bored with hexies. I think this kind of design could possibly sway me!! Hope your poor dad's doing ok, what awful treatment... or lack of!!
ReplyDeleteI totally know what you mean about being bored with hexies. It was fun to play with the colors and they are relaxing while hanging with my dad. All the nurses would ask how I had the patience and I would say I have two toddlers so this is relaxing for me. HAHA! Thanks for the visit!
DeleteOoooo love your pillow! The hand quilting was a lovely touch :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Serena! I debated the hand quilting and then thought I would just do one row, but then I kept going because I loved the way it looked! Thanks so much for visiting and taking the time to comment!
DeleteSo good to hear your Dad is back home and well on the recovery route.
ReplyDeleteCushion has worked so well, we have come along way with EPP from when it was just hexies
Hi Margaret! Thanks so much! He is so happy to be home and seems to be recovering faster at home. I'm quite enjoying the non-hexie EPP lately. I might have to try a star next or join Jan at Sow and Sew Farm's EPP bee. Thanks so much for visiting, as always!
DeleteYour pillow is gorgeous! So delicate and pretty!
