Double Dresdens and Dining/Living Room Reveal

Happy Friday! I am super excited to be posting something other than the Texas QAL and even more excited to be able to share of one the first spaces in our new home! Eek!

Decorating the dining/living area in the new house was on the top of the list because this is the space you see when you first walk in the door. So even though it might be months before I get to the rest of the house, at least visitors will be fooled (briefly...haha)!

Dining with Dresdens

I started these Anna Maria Horner Dresdens before the big move, but didn't find the time to finish them until last week. I also decided to make some placemats using all my leftover fat quarters from the Hand Drawn Garden (my favorite) and True Colors. Sometimes I need to remind myself that there will always be more AMH!

I actually did all my FMQ before I attached the Dresdens so I didn't have to maneuver around it and deal with awkward starts and finishes. I went with a Baptist fan design and it was actually my first try at it and I love it! The movements are very easy to catch on to and so fun! I want to try it larger on a quilt next!

I wanted these Dresdens to be a tad bit different than the ones I've made in the past (see Charming Dresdens), so I went double! I used 2.5" x 5" for the larger Dresden and then 2.5"x2.5" for the smaller Dresden placed directly on top. I hadn't decided on what background to use until I was pressing them on my newly recovered ironing board and loved the combination! Background is Michael Miller's line called Couture. :)

Here is the back side. Gosh, these two prints are probably of my favorites!

For the placemats, I just made pieced one side with 2.5" squares to make a "+" design and then the other side is just one piece of fabric. I FMQ wavy/organic lines. These placemats measure 12"x16" so they will fit nicely on my smaller round table in the kitchen. Score! The candle sticks are a vintage find from a couple of years ago and when I bought them, they had been painted a light shade of grey. I decided to spray paint them again but instead with a bright yellow/green. I love them!

The curtain fabric is from Hobby Lobby and called Waverly Santa Maria in Desert Flower. I had been eying this fabric for over a year and at first thought it might be too bold, but once I decided I wanted this space to be bold with brilliant saturated colors, so I knew it was the perfect fit. I then recovered the lamp shade with some leftovers. I would love to make some pillows as well.

I decided that we didn't want to put a bunch of seating in the formal living, well, because no one ever uses this space for "living". Instead, we thought it would be great as a little library/reading space and put a cozy chair and bookshelf there. To find the most comfy chair, I literally sat on every single decent looking chair at Rooms to Go and when I sat in this one I knew it was the one!

Most of the art on the wall is from Hobby Lobby with exception to the butterfly print from Kirklands and the bird print on opposite wall is from Ikea. The purple mirror on the back wall was a clearance mirror from Hobby Lobby that I painted purple.

I am in love with this rug! I found it online at Target after auditioning two other rugs in the space. I couldn't be happier!

I got the great buffet dresser from a local antique store decided to store my nice serving dishes and platters.

While doing this photoshoot, I found Dolly being sweet laying on the rug and its very hard to get pictures of Dolly because she is freaked out by the camera.

After I got this rare and sweet picture, I realized I needed one of Bailey, too! In order for Bailey to pose perfectly still for the camera, you have to say "treat."

Dining with Dresdens

Once I said the word "treat", the relishes thought that was their cue to come join in the photo shoot and earn a treat as well and what is a my fabric relish photo shoot with out all the little and furry relishes involved!?!

I then taught big relish that if you say the word "taco" to bailey, his head cocks to the side even more than if you just say "treat!"

See! hehehe

Gotta love them all! So happy to be back creating and sharing! Hope you enjoyed my post and look forward to sharing some more spaces as they become ready! Have a great weekend!

  5. My jaw just dropped. What a beautiful house you have! Or at least, you have us well-fooled with this one space :P I'm so excited that I get to sit in that seat in person in less than 6 months, lol!! And you won't even need to say "treat" to me to get me to pose, although chocolate or iced coffee won't go astray ;)
